Experience Yellowstone National Park in a completely different light. Geysers, geological mysteries and the wildlife of Yellowstone are waiting to be photographed in this winter wonderland. Explore the heart of Yellowstone on a snow coach or bomber and see what you've been missing.
NEW THIS YEAR - 3 Days in the PARK + Extra Fun Additions
The focus of this workshop will be winter landscapes and how to compose and expose them correctly. Although, we will be looking for Bison, Fox, Coyotes, Wolves and especially our friends the Bobcats throughout the workshop. So bring a big lens or rent one from our store here in West Yellowstone.
Join Christopher Balmer as he hosts this workshop and takes you on a photographic journey through Alaska. Christopher will also be instructing on how to master your camera throughout the workshop.

Class will include settings and techniques for shooting in winter lighting conditions
along with Practical Shooting Skills
February 12th, 2024
Breakfast - 6:00am Running Bear Pancake House (or 6:30am Three Bear Lodge Restaurant) Park Tour #1 - Hayden Valley / Canyon*
Departing - 7:00am We will depart Three Bear Lodge early on our own private snow coaches and spend the day in the Park.
Class: Metering / Photographing in any Lighting Situation - (5pm - 6pm)
(or beginning 45 min after we return from our park tour)
We will have time for reviewing the day, assisting with settings, and covering photographic skills to prepare for the next day.
Dinner on your own or with our instructors - 6:30pm

What Should I Wear?
Warm clothes (think layers)

Wide Angle Lenses - for Landscapes

(150-600mm or 200-500mm or even an 18-400mm)
Chargers and Batteries for Camera
(preferably extra batteries as they will become exhausted in the cold - just like we do)

Polarizer for the widest angle lens (we prefer the Moose filters)
Tripod - yes, you're doing landscapes - bring it!
Rain Sleeve for your lenses.

Hot Hands (recommended by Katie) - these are hand warmers that you can put in your pockets and/or gloves.

A computer to download your images at the end of the day (not necessary if you have a bazillion memory cards)
What is the Weather Like?
Winter wonderland – it can snow quite a bit. Plan on layering as it can warm up in the day or be snowy and cold. Mornings can be cold in the park - sometimes in the negative Fahrenheit range and then warming as the day progresses.
Wonder. The only way to describe what you will encounter in Yellowstone in winter. Climb aboard as you are carried into the heart of the park to photograph the unique vistas and wildlife that populate America's first national park. Both pristine and rugged at the same time - you'll see Yellowstone unlike you've ever seen it before.
